That’s not to say that it’s replacing old halogen or incandecent lights with LED panel lights, but that it’s replacing old, less efficient LED panel lights with newer, MORE efficient LED panel lights. We can’t say we’re not proud of the administrators at Citgo field, because they were way ahead of their time when, 45 years ago they chose LED panel lights to adorn the Citgo sign that looms over Fenway Parks “Green Monster,” which so many Bostonians are used to seeing every night. In fact, this maintenance downtime represents the first time the lights have been off since 1979, and so citizens are waiting with baited breath for them to be turned back on. And when they are, they’ll be pleasantly surprised. The sign will be brighter, more efficient and will last longer than its older self. It will also boast new computer graphic animation capabilities thanks to the updated LEDs, which are waterproof, full color numbers that are programed to the stadiums computer system. But as for timeless, the sign has and will always be that.
